Its extensive operations are structured into five core business divisions: Synthetic Fibers, Resins and Plastics, Intermediate Petrochemicals, Petroleum Products, and the Trading of Petrochemical Products. The Synthetic Fibers division focuses on producing polyesters, acrylic fibers, and carbon fibers, which are primarily employed within the textile and garment industries. The Resins and Plastics segment is responsible for manufacturing polyester chips, essential for creating polyester fibers, protective coatings, and diverse containers. It also produces polyethylene resins and plastics, utilized in insulated cabling, agricultural mulching films, and various molded items such as household goods and children's toys. Additionally, this segment develops polypropylene resins, which find use in films, sheets, and molded applications like housewares, toys, consumer electronics, and automotive parts, alongside PVA granules. Within the Intermediate Petrochemicals division, the company generates p-xylene, benzene, and ethylene oxide, crucial as foundational raw materials for the subsequent production of other petrochemicals, a variety of resins, plastics, and synthetic fibers. The Petroleum Products division manages crude oil refining facilities, yielding outputs such as refined gasoline, diesel, heavy fuel oil, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Lastly, the Trading of Petrochemical Products segment handles the international import and export activities of various petrochemical substances. Established in 1972 and headquartered in Shanghai, China, Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Company Limited operates as a subsidiary of the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation.
