What Mechel PAO does
Mechel PAO, previously known as Mechel OAO until its rebranding in March 2016, is a diversified Russian enterprise established in 2003 and based in Moscow. The company's operations span three core sectors: mining, steel manufacturing, and power generation, with a geographical reach across Russia, Asia, Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and other international markets. Its Steel division is responsible for producing and supplying a comprehensive array of steel products. This includes semi-finished steel goods, various types of carbon and specialty long products, carbon and stainless flat products, and specialized downstream metal items such as forgings, stampings, hardware, railway components, and ferrosilicon. The Mining division focuses on the extraction and distribution of coking coal, steam coal, middlings, coke and chemical products, and iron ore concentrate. Lastly, the Power division generates and sells electricity and thermal energy to external customers. This segment also provides essential logistics services, specifically transshipment, and manages electricity distribution networks.
