What DTE Energy does

DTE Energy Company operates primarily as a utility provider. Its Electric division is responsible for generating, acquiring, distributing, and selling electrical power to approximately 2.3 million residential, commercial, and industrial clients throughout southeastern Michigan. This power is sourced from a diverse mix of fossil-fuel, hydroelectric pumped storage, nuclear facilities, and renewable assets like wind. The company's Gas segment manages the procurement, storage, transportation, distribution, and retail sales of natural gas to roughly 1.3 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers across the entire state of Michigan. This unit also offers its excess storage and transportation capacity to others. Its extensive natural gas network comprises approximately 20,000 miles of distribution mains, 1,304,000 service pipelines, and 1,305,000 active meters, alongside roughly 2,000 miles of owned transmission pipelines. Through its Power and Industrial Projects segment, DTE supplies specialized products such as metallurgical coke, pulverized coal, and petroleum coke to industries like steel, pulp and paper. It also delivers crucial industrial services, including power, steam, and chilled water production, wastewater treatment, and compressed air provision. The Energy Trading division is active in the marketing and trading of electricity, natural gas, and environmental commodities. This segment also engages in structured financial transactions and strategically optimizes its contractual positions for natural gas pipeline transportation and storage. Established in 1903, DTE Energy Company's corporate headquarters are situated in Detroit, Michigan.
