DTE Energy Company operates primarily as a utility provider. Its Electric division is responsible for generating, acquiring, distributing, and selling electricity, serving approximately 2.3 million household, business, and industrial consumers located in southeastern Michigan. This power is generated from a diverse portfolio including fossil fuels, hydroelectric pumped storage, nuclear facilities, and renewable assets like wind farms. The robust infrastructure supporting these operations encompasses nearly 700 distribution substations and over 449,000 line transformers. The Gas segment procures, stores, transports, distributes, and markets natural gas to around 1.3 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers across Michigan. This division also offers its storage and transmission capacity for sale. Its extensive network features roughly 20,000 miles of distribution mains, 1,304,000 service pipelines, and 1,305,000 active meters, alongside approximately 2,000 miles of transmission pipelines. Within its Power and Industrial Projects unit, the company produces metallurgical coke and supplies pulverized coal and petroleum coke to various heavy industries such as steel and pulp and paper production. Moreover, this segment delivers critical services including power generation, steam and chilled water production, wastewater treatment, and compressed air supply to industrial clients. DTE Energy's Energy Trading arm is engaged in the marketing and trading of power, natural gas, and environmental commodities. It also conducts structured transactions and strategically optimizes its contracted natural gas pipeline transportation and storage holdings. The company was founded in 1903 and its corporate headquarters are situated in Detroit, Michigan.
